" La relazione fra maestro e studente è uno degli più peculiari del Buddismo Zen. Nei tempiantichi, la gente voleva andare di montagna in montagna cercando un maestro. Oggi andreste nei vari centri Zen per trovare qualcuno co cui vi sentite di poter lavorare, ma come fate a sapere di aver trovato la persona giusta?

 

Eccovi alcune domande utili da porvi:

1. Posso correre dei rischi con questo maestro?

2. Posso fare la figura dello stupido davanti a lui?

3. Posso dirgli: " Non lo so !"?

 

Se la risposta è ' Si ' a tutte le domande, potete firdarvi di questo maestro nei modi suggeriti: probabilmente vi siete trovati un buon maestro. In caso contrario, è possibile che passiate i prossimi dieci anne a cercarne uno che vada bene."
